How did we get here?
On September 15, 2017, Jacob was stripped from our family. We were angry, saddened and in disbelief. We still struggle to this day. The media, San Jose Police Department and City of San Jose immediately started to blame Jacob and attempted to tarnish his name. Amidst this hateful campaign against our Jacob we knew we needed to push for justice in his name - for his mother, wife, three young children, and Jacob's large circle of family and friends.
Over the past 5 years, with the support of other De-Bug families who have lost loved ones to police, we've been able to uplift Jacob's name and push for change. In January of 2018, only a few months after Jacob's death, his auntie Rosie began organizing with De-Bug and helped pass SB 1421, a state law that is supposed to make police records public in incidents of use of force, sexual assault and dishonesty. This group of families at De-Bug have continued to be a support system for other families in San Jose who have had their loved ones killed, a pattern that continues to this day.

Through these efforts Jacob's family filed a civil lawsuit against the City of San Jose in August of 2018. Now, almost five years to the date of Jacob's killing, this civil trial will start on August 22, 2022. Community supporters will be sharing updates and highlights from the trial on this website and on De-Bug's social media. #JusticeForJacobDominguez #ProtectYourPeople
